Catching Bugs
Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! We love this story all about bugs titled Bugs Galore by Peter Stein. This book is full of descriptors, colorful pictures, and of course BUGS! Students will love labeling and identifying all of the creepy crawlies throughout each page. Great book for producing adjective + noun phrases!

To go along with the bear and bees, we have a Spring Catching Bugs Speech Articulation Craft to target every sound in every position. Have your students color and cut out their bugs while practicing their target sound. When gluing each bug in their bug catchers/bug jar or tree stump, have students produce their target words again!

Ladybugs
This is one of our favorite stories! Read all about this ladybug in Eric Carle’s The Grouchy Ladybug. Follow along on this grumpy ladybug’s journey to find a sparring partner. Throughout the book, the main character interacts with several different insects. Perfect story for identifying emotions, comparatives, and discussing appropriate social interactions.

Luckily our ladybugs aren’t super grumpy so your students will love filling their leaves with these bugs. Once their leaves are full, your students will have an easy take home craft to continuing practicing their target sounds for speech homework. This Spring Ladybugs Speech Articulation Craft will quickly become one of your spring activity favorites!

Build A Caterpillar
A spring book list wouldn’t be complete without The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle! This classic story of a little caterpillar’s transformation to a beautiful butterfly. We love this story for all of the food vocabulary plus the simple introduction to cause and effect.
Check out this animated version of the story for even more fun!
After listening to the story, have your students build their very own caterpillar with our Spring Build A Caterpillar Speech Articulation Craft. You can target every sound in every position with this craft. There is even a blank page to fill in with any additional target sounds you may have. Students can color, cut, and glue on their caterpillars how they would like!

Rainy Day
Rain, rain go away…or don’t! Our next themed duo is all about the rainy spring weather. First read or listen to The Rainy Day by Anna Milbourne and Sarah Gill. This is a great book to discuss weather, clothing, and animal vocabulary. Don’t have rainy weather by you? No worries because this story will take you through your very own rainy day!

Want even more rainy day fun? Have your students color and cut huge raindrops to decorate their pages while practicing their target sounds. Once they have completed this Spring Rainy Day Speech Articulation Craft, you can decorate your speech bulletin boards for spring. Or have your students take home their finished products for more at home practice.

Jumping Frogs
Poor frog! Read this story to see why the frog is having a hard time sitting on his log. Through clever rhymes, fun pictures, and a twist ending, your students will love answering WH questions while listening to this story.

Not going to lie…frog’s aren’t really my favorite. However, Mandy created the cutest speech sound frog craft. Pair this Spring Jumping Frogs Speech Articulation Craft for lots of practice during your speech sessions. This craft is so cute I can even be convinced frogs aren’t gross…just maybe. 😅
Spring Flowers
This next story will really help you stop and smell the roses! Read or listen to Have You Ever Seen A Flower? by Shawn Harris to help your students discover a flower with their five senses. With super descriptive language, students will be able to make text to self connections all with a spring flower theme.

Our last speech craft is the Spring Flowers Speech Articulation Craft. Each flower contains a page for s-blends, l-blends, and r-blends making for a very productive speech session. Students will be able to color and fill their spring gardens while getting many opportunities to practice their speech sounds.
