We LOVE the fall season and all of the fun themed activities that come along with it…especially pumpkins! So Mandy and I have rounded up our favorite pumpkin themed speech and language therapy ideas and activities!

Check out our favorite hands-on pumpkin activity, pumpkin themed book, go-to no prep pumpkin direction following worksheets, and more.
Gourd Describing
First up, we have the simplest fall activity ever! Grab a bag of assorted gourds and mini pumpkins. Print out a few basic adjectives and laminate. We chose bumpy, smooth, green, yellow, orange, round, long, big, and small.

Let students pick up and hold each gourd and match the descriptive words to each! Build utterance length by combining several adjectives into one sentence. Our students love all of the funny looking shaped gourds and their unique colors!
Golf Tee Pumpkin
This activity is perfect for small group sessions or classroom based table rotations. Find a larger pumpkin with a relatively smooth surface. Buy a package of simple white golf tees and grab a small wooden mallet.

Have students take turns hammering in golf tees. Target core words such as “in”, “out”, “soft”, “hard”, “more”, “push”, “pull”, “turn”, and tons more. Students will hardly be able to wait their turn (but will get lots of practice turn-taking!) to get a chance to hammer on the pumpkin!
Pumpkin Category Sort
We have the ultimate pumpkin categorizing activity for you! Instantly download this Freebie Pumpkin Size Sorting & Categorizing Activity here.

With this one resource, your students will be able to sort pumpkins by size as well as from biggest to smallest, smallest to biggest, and color by size. This is a must have activity for not only your pumpkin themed speech and language sessions, but ideal for easy speech homework reinforcers for parents!

Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Next up, we have a pumpkin themed book for your fall sessions! We love Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington. This story targets sequencing through the life cycle of the pumpkin, but also includes tons of vocabulary.

(PS this story pairs perfectly with our Pumpkin Life Cycle Speech Articulation Craft too! Great for those mixed speech and language goal groups!)

Pumpkin Direction Following
We all have those kiddos on our caseloads with direction following goals. But don’t stress…we have your next go-to resource to target all things pumpkin within directions. Check out our Pumpkin No Prep Direction Following With Qualitative & Quantitative Concepts.
Target multi-step directions containing basic, spatial, sequential, temporal, and conditional concepts with these no prep, print and go worksheets. Students will love coloring all of the pumpkin pictures as well as discussing the pumpkin themed vocabulary.
