School’s (almost) out for summer! Woo hoo! But before your speech and language students leave you for summer break, we have some easy summer speech and language homework activity ideas. Mandy and I like to send students home with easy and effective speech and language activities for the extended summer break to keep them busy!

We know the end of the school year can be very hectic! But with these suggestions, summer homework prep will be a no brainer to add to your end of the year checklist. From books to outdoor activities, your students will maintain their speech and language skills all summer long!

Speech Homework Summer Calendars

What better way to work on skills during the summer than practicing daily? Now of course we want our students to have a relaxing and fun summer, but with these quick daily activities they won’t mind practicing their speech articulation goals until you see them again in the fall.

We have created calendars for every speech goals including blends, vocalic /r/, and word shapes. Just print all 3 months (June, July, & August) plus their target sounds. Then send home the corresponding summer themed picture scene so students track their progress all summer long.

Summer WH Questions

We love these simple Summer No Prep WH Questions to target who, what, where, when, why, and mixed WH questions! These no prep, black and white printable worksheets are the perfect resource to send home for summer homework. With clear directions and fun themed vocabulary, your students (and their parents!) will enjoy this activity!

Just have students cut out the answer pictures then paste on the worksheet while practicing summer themed WH questions to increase comprehension. Students can color then hang their final products on the fridge all summer long!

Encourage Outdoor Playtime

Throughout the school year, I also joke with my students that their real speech and language homework every week is to…get outside and be active! Just experiencing all the fun summer has to offer will help students build language skills, increase social thinking, and strengthen vocabulary.
