Valentine’s Day Prepositions Activities
We have the how-to’s for every activity included in our Valentine’s Day Prepositions Activities & Worksheets resource. Targeted spatial concepts include:Â IN, UNDER, ON, IN FRONT, NEXT TO, BETWEEN, BEHIND, OVER, AROUND, ABOVE, OUT, THROUGH. No matter what level your students are at, there is a spatial activity that will fit your needs. We promise these engaging activities will be love at first sight!
Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #1: Matching Mats
First up, we have these no prep, super easy spatial preposition matching mats. Whether your students need pictures, written words, or symbols, this activity has it all!
Just print whichever matching option you would like…pictures, written words, or symbols…then print and cut out the spatial preposition cards. Hide cards in a sensory bin, lay out in a field of three, or simply review each individual card. Then have students match to the corresponding form!
These matching mats are ideal for a quick review, assessment, or small group rotation activity.

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #2: Clip or Cover Cards
Up next, we have a simple spin on concept identification. Have students look at the picture then cover the corresponding answer with a mini-eraser, pom pom, BINGO chip, or any other small manipulative. To incorporate some fine motor skills, have students use a cloth pin to “clip” the correct answer.

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #3: Punch Cards
We love these punch cards for so many reasons! The first reason being you will get tons of spatial preposition practice! Use a mini-eraser, pom pom, BINGO chip, or any other small manipulative to cover up the targeted concept multiple times. But in addition to lots of repeated drill, your occupational therapist will thank you too! Have students use a cloth pin to “clip” the correct answer.

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #4: Smash Mats
Who loves a good smash mat? We do!!! Not only are they super easy to prep, our students love them as well. And these spatial preposition smash mats are no exception. Print in color then laminate or use a page protector for repeated use with play dough. Or print in black and white allowing students to color their very own copy. Perfect for speech and language homework!

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #5: Spin A Preposition
Our students love this hands-on Valentine’s Day preposition activity! Simply use a clear overlay spinner or pencil and paper clip to pick a preposition. Move the caterpillar and mailbox to show the preposition then label the preposition. Students love being in control of the spinner to determine where to move the turtle. Plus this is a great activity to work on turn-taking too!

From calling cards to a variety of BINGO boards to themed markers, your students will have many opportunities for preposition practice, but also language skills including game play, turn-taking, and concept identification.

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #7: 2-Part Cards
Use this next activity to match pictures to sentences containing embedded spatial concepts. Simply cut cards apart, and have students match the sentence with the correct picture. Laminate and use repeatedly. Or have students cut and paste the sentences and pictures together for a perfect take home carry-over activity!

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #8: Interactive Book (Full Color)
With our caseloads, we love to incorporate adaptive books and literacy in general. When we can use a book to target spatial concepts, that is even better! This Valentine’s Day themed interactive book allows students to manipulate the cute caterpillar to practice prepositions. Read the simple direction containing each concept then put a caterpillar on the page.
Print & laminate the full color pages. Have students place the caterpillar in the correct place. To help you differentiate during your speech and language sessions, we have two versions available: sentence level and sentence with visuals level.

Valentine’s Day Preposition Activity #9: Student Activity Book (Black & White)
To give your students the perfect spatial preposition task, look no further! Print this black and white student activity book to target not only location concepts, but direction following too. After student place the caterpillar in the correct place on the page, they can color the picture how they choose or listen to a simple direction from you!

This activity is a low ink print option and perfect to send home for skill carry-over. A sentence strip is on the bottom of each page to encourage MLU and help parents continue the practice at home.
