When we think of Presidents’ Day, we say, “Yay! Three day weekend!” While this excitement is absolutely true, we also think, “Woo hoo! Can’t miss an opportunity for some themed fun!” Check out this complete speech and language line-up of Presidents’ Day ideas and activities to make your short week even easier.

Presidents’ Day Book Idea
First up, we have a super cute and popular childrens’ book: Duck For President. While love all of the Doreen Cronin books, Duck For President is such a funny story with the main character climbing the political ladder. Perfect for Presidents’ Day language sessions!
This story can target WH questions, presidential vocabulary, and sequencing during the week of Presidents’ Day. There are lots of great ways to practice a variety of language skills. Be sure to head over to Teachers Pay Teachers as there are tons of free book companion activities to go along with duck’s rise to stardom!

Presidents’ Day Speech Articulation Craft
Next up, we have the easiest, no prep speech articulation craft with a Presidents’ Day theme. Just print and go with this craft which includes every sound in every position. Have students choose from three different backgrounds. Then have them cut, color, and paste the American flags containing the target sounds on to the page.
This speech craft is a great companion to the Duck For President, but also an easy take home activity for carry-over practice. Click here to grab your no prep Presidents’ Day speech craft here!

Need an easy, but super functional Presidents’ Day activity idea? Talk about money! Use coins discuss different amounts, corresponding President names, and more.
And of course, we have just the themed activity for you! Grab our free coin matching worksheets in our TPT store. Students can match coin fronts to their backs, coins to the corresponding President, and write coin names. We laminated each worksheet for repeated use, but you can also print and send home for more practice!

Presidents’ Day Direction Following
We have a super awesome direction following activity to target embedded directions while using a ton of Presidents’ Day themed vocabulary. With this set of directions, you can target multi-step directions containing spatial, sequential, temporal, and conditional concepts.
In addition, you can review the following Presidents’ Day themed vocabulary: Jet, Eagle, President Lincoln, President Washington, President Obama, Dollar Bills, Flag, Coin, White House, Cake, Heart, and Air Force One. Click here to check it out!

Presidents’ Day Sensory Bin
Last up, we have a functional, but fun Presidents’ Day themed sensory bin. All you need is a variety of fake coins and dollars! Huge shout out to one of my favorite co-workers, Mrs. Tessa Lick, for lending us her vast collection of fake money!
This was a great activity to pair with our Free Presidents’ Day Coin Identification Worksheets listed above too. I printed and laminated the Presidents on each coin for a search and find activity as well. My son loved digging through the money, counting his change, and matching his coins to the worksheets.

Be sure to check out our other Presidents’ Day themed products too. We have another awesome freebie targeting /S-blends/ with our Articulation Drill Punch Cards as well as a full version containing every sound in every position. Click here or the images below to snag those today!

We hope that you are able to incorporate one or all of these Presidents’ Day themed activities and ideas into you speech and language sessions this week. We also hope you have a fantastic three day weekend! 😉
Happy Presidents’ Day!
